After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang led by a prison escapee unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of the victims -- a mother and father who devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.
Steer as clear as you possibly can from The Last House on the Left.
Not only is it plodding and completely predictable, the carnage is rendered slowly and quasi-reverentially, making the whole brutal experience come off like torture porn.
No doubt due to the increasingly graphic style of such horror movies as the Saw series, this Wes Craven remake has become even more grisly and sadistic.
A drawn-out rape scene is especially heinous. Knifings and other mutilations are shot in almost slow motion to heighten their effect.
The idea is to show just how far a pair of ordinary folks will go to exact revenge on a trio of psychopaths who have vi...

The original version of The Last House on the Left -- the 1972 feature debut of horror master Wes Craven and a primal tour of rape, mayhem, murder and madness -- was one of those movies that was spoken about even decades later with an uncertain mix of fear and reverence.
Now given the Hollywood remake treatment, with Craven as producer, Greek-born Dennis Iliadis directing and a script credited to Adam Alleca and Carl Ellsworth, the remodeled House is a shockingly mundane disappointment taken on its own and a deeply misguided refraction of the original.

Shockingly bad
Boring for most of the film. The movie is long and seems longer. The ending is riddiclous.
The girls are beaten and abused in a very disturbing and uncomfortable scene which in my opinion didnt need to be that graphic.
I spent most of the movie wondering where i recognised the actor who plays the dad - he is the 'baddie' in Ghost...in case you were wondering. :-)
The low-budget grunginess that helped make Wes Craven's 1972 original "Last House on the Left" an unsettling memento of its era is wiped clean in Dennis Iliadis' remake -- one unnecessary on every level save the paramount commercial one. Tweaked in ways that seem less like updates than concessions to current genre conventions -- complete with more graphic gore and sexual violence -- this tale of very bad things happening to very nice people should clean up at the B.O. But if the original could be accused of having a real point (even a subtext), the uninspired redo has none whatsoever.
Much-imitated even in its famous adline ("To avoid fainting, keep rep...

This one comes with more baggage than the carousel at Heathrow Terminal Five. Last House On The Left is a remake of a remake of Ingmar Bergman's 1959 Oscar-winner The Virgin Spring, itself an adaptation of 'Töres Dotter I Wänge', a medieval Swedish folk ballad of child murder and parental retribution. It possibly goes without saying that the Bergman film is about as funny as a burning Punch & Judy booth. Wes Craven's unofficial 'remake' of The Virgin Spring is even less amusing than that. And this 2009 version makes you want to throw in your lot with a doomsday cult.

If there going to make a remake of a movie, they need to make sure its going to be better then the 1st!! The storyline was ok,good cast.. But it was to predictable.. This movie fell real short of its mark!! Stupid ending,, but you have to like the bad guys getting there licks.. Gave this movie 7/10.. Enjoy!!
This was a very good movie. The ending and all that parts that confused a lot of people, I think, were done that way on purpose to make you think. [SPOILER]
Ok I said it before I dont mind horror not my favorite genre but its like this with any kind of movie so there was particular story I mean what if the John dosent talk to the girls in the store the whole thing tumbled on each other and it dosent seem good family going on a vacation and all and all that. The movie all in all was good cause there was loads of suspense in this and thats what it needed.
The movie in a way is about a Perverted asshole group who kill people for sheer entertainment or boredom almost no point father was like "BE A MAN SON, THI IS THE TIME TO BE A MAN" WHAT A STUPID THING TO SAY I mean the only man there was the son he resisted well not really I wouldnt call it resisting cause it seemed he just didnt have the disgusting retarded hungry person in him like half the men in this world lol I know loads of people who wouldve just thrown themselves at her. Which is plainly disturbing pathetic low life and disgusting what has this world come to. I would've done the same thing as John I rather would have died then be a part of that group of retarded pigs.
This movie WASN’T horrible. Everyone in Hollywood is doing remakes, whether we like it or not all we can do is gripe about it until someone starts a petition stating Hollywood should STOP with the remakes, also while they’re there make sure you add in STOP with ruining Resident Evil.
Anyway, this film wasn’t horrible. [SPOILER]
Yes the Rape scene is out there, and for sensitive views I could see how it would be VERY HARD TO WATCH
but I don’t think that ruins the movie. The irony in this movie was great, along with the revenge.
I bought this movie, I loved it.
very solid film, nice cast, nice story. the rape scene was pretty painful to watch, just like in irreversible. it's worth a watch. 2 1/2 of 4 stars good.
First of all this was awful. I was stoked to see how they were going to do this but they did not do the original justice at all. The first one was so much more brutal. If you are going to even attempt remaking a film that was that controversial at that time, you need to make it even more or at least as brutal as the original. The only good horror remake that has come out is The Hills Have Eyes. Now they are remaking some of my favorite foreign horrors and they are going to butcher those too.
I will say though that The Crazies looks awesome and might be up there with The Hills Have Eyes (as in better than the original). I hope to god that is the case.
i have to stop listening to my girlfriend`s suggestions for movies. wasn`t really much of a story. like "the hills have eyes" this movie just tries to shock you into liking it. i would have preferred a liitle more story and a little less brutality.
