Awash with breathtaking animation, unforgettably colourful characters, and two Academy Awards for score and song, "Under The Sea," The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's most cherished films. Ariel, the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, is enchanted with all things human.
Disregarding her father's order to stay away from the world above the sea, she swims to the surface and, in a raging storm, rescues the prince of her dreams. Determined to be human, she strikes a bargain with the devious sea witch, Ursula, and trades her fins and beautiful voice for legs. With her best friend, the... adorable and chatty Flounder, and her reluctant chaperone Sebastian, the hilarious, reggae-singing Caribbean crab, at her side, Ariel must win the prince's love and save her father's kingdom -- all in a heart-pounding race against time!

Disney fare based on the Hans Christian Andersen story about a mermaid who yearns to live in a human world. Her father, King Triton, won't hear her talk of the wretched fish-eaters, and she is driven to seek help from Ursula the sea witch. In an attempt to save its dwindling credibility as the most prominent producer of family films, after years of churning out tat like Pete's Dragon, Disney went back to basics (admittedly with a big budget and a sophisticated marketing campaign). Relying on a simple, recognized tale, great songs and marvellous animation, it turned it's fortunes around.

this film is superb. Ariel, a vivacious red-headed mermaid, dreams of the mystery and excitement of the human world, much to the concern of her father King Triton and his valet, the Caribbean crab Sebastian.
Together with her best friend Flounder, Ariel secretly explores sunken ships, taking her finds to the scatterbrained seagull Scuttle for analysis.
But when she saves the life of Prince Eric in a storm, a sinister outcast makes her move upon the hapless young girl.
Ursula the Sea-Witch, offers to turn Ariel into a human for three days, during which she must get Eric to kiss her, should she want to remain with him on land always.
